Melissa Blanton got her curiosity from her father. He read the paper daily. When he finished a section, he handed it to her. Born and raised in Northern California, Blanton graduated from high school and headed South - the real South, Greenville. She enrolled at Bob Jones University and declared her major as creative writing. But halfway through her sophomore year, a tour through the Washington Post newsroom and a seat at a morning budget meeting brought new possibilities to mind. She changed her major to print journalism and hasn't looked back. Blanton worked as an intern at the Greenville Journal and the summer after graduation was hired as a reporter. She timidly opened up her first notebook and started asking questions. It was soon apparent it was more than 9-to-5 job. It was a chance to help, to enlighten, to inspire and sometimes bring needed change. In early 2008 she switched to the editing side to become managing editor of the Community Journals newspapers, working not only with words but also with design. That led to her involvement in planning and designing this Web site, a whole new venue for touching lives.
