Two young rescue puppies are winning hearts after overcoming a difficult start in life with a rare spinal condition.
Nala and Simba, nine-week-old poodle-cross puppies, were diagnosed with Spina Bifida, a condition that can affect movement, coordination, and physical development in dogs.
Despite the challenges, the puppies are showing incredible progress under specialist care at Margaret Green Animal Rescue in Dorset.

A Difficult Beginning for Nala and Simba
Nala and Simba were born after their mother, Mary, was rescued while heavily pregnant. Mary, also a poodle-cross, had been found with 64 other dogs in a single household before being taken into the care of Margaret Green Animal Rescue.
Soon after arriving at the rescue centre, Mary gave birth to five puppies. Sadly, two of the puppies died shortly after birth.
Mary and one surviving puppy, Zaru, have since found new homes, but Nala and Simba needed a more complex care journey.
Animal care staff began noticing concerns with the puppies’ development. Veterinary checks later revealed spinal abnormalities, leading to the diagnosis of Spina Bifida.
