Council vice chairman Bob Taylor handed out $15,500 to various projects around the county from his council expense account during the consent agenda portion of Tuesday night’s Greenville county Council session.
Included in the total were $500 for county Public Works to purchase native plants for the Fairfield flood plain project; $5,000 for Camp Spearhead infrastructure projects not covered by the TRAC plan; $2,000 infrastructure improvements at the North Main Street Rotary Park; and $8,000 for expenses related to the Greenville Symphony Orchestra concert at Freedom Weekend Aloft.
Council also authorized a public hearing on a request from the Berea Public Service District to issue $1.5 million in bonds to cover purchases of a rescue service truck and a fire pumper truck.
The money would also be used to pay for renovations at the district’s fire stations one and two as well as pay for improvements to the sewer lines throughout the district.
Council also passed resolutions authorizing public hearings on a plan by the Greater Greenville Sanitation District to annex three parcels on Oak Vale Road and two on Groce Road.
Council also approved a resolution authorizing execution of a lease agreement by which the county will pay not more than $750,000 to lease 30 vehicles and one ambulance remount for a period not to exceed five years and five percent interest.
Clearing council on third and final reading was the library budget which set 7.4 mils as the library’s tax rate which would mean $14,018,872 in projected income which would be zeroed out by expenditures.
Proterra’s Fee in Lieu of Taxes agreement was delayed again by council. This time it was to give the green bus maker’s attorneys time to settle some legal questions on the agreement.
Council passed on second reading revisions to the county’s environmental control ordinance requiring property owners to keep their property free and clear of vines, weeds and briars within 10 feet of a property line.
Also passed on second reading was an ordinance authorizing issuance of $1.325 million in general obligations bonds for the Tigerville Fire District and the Fountain Inn Fire Service Area Project.
Of the total, $725,000 would go to Fountain Inn and $600,000 to the Tigerville Fire District.
Clearing council on first reading was issuance of $16.5 million in county tourism certificates of participation – series 2010.
County council next meets at 6 p.m. on June 1 in council chambers at County Square.
