Woolworth building demo pending

City manager says asbestos removal nearly complete

Work could start within a few weeks on demolishing the old Woolworth Building downtown, City Manager Jim Bourey said this week.

Contractors are busy removing asbestos from the building’s interior. Once that work is finished the building’s outside awning will come down making it necessary to close part of the sidewalk on Main Street.

Once that is done actual demolition will get underway, Bourey said, starting with the outer wall facing Main Street.
