A stray black cat found sheltering outside a home in London has been given a second chance after a kind postal worker noticed her during daily delivery rounds.

The cat had been sitting quietly in the same front garden day after day. She looked lost, but she had clearly chosen the spot as a temporary refuge. Instead of ignoring her, the postal worker decided to ask the homeowner if the cat belonged to him.

The homeowner explained that the cat was not his, but he had been feeding her for several months.

She had appeared one day and started living beneath the wheelchair ramp outside his front door. Although she was homeless, the man made sure she had food and checked on her regularly.

Rescue Team Steps In

To find out whether the cat had an owner, a paper collar was placed around her neck. This is often used by rescuers to alert possible owners that a cat has been seen outdoors repeatedly. However, no one came forward.

The cat was also not microchipped, and rescuers soon noticed that her belly was growing larger. It became clear that she was pregnant and would soon give birth.

With colder weather arriving and kittens on the way, The Stray Cat Club, an all-volunteer rescue group in London, arranged to bring her into care. The team gave her a safe, warm place to rest and prepare for motherhood.

They named her Liquorice.

Liquorice Welcomes Four Kittens

Just days after arriving in safety, Liquorice gave birth to four healthy kittens. The babies were named Habanero, Jalapeño, Tabasco, and Carolina Reaper.

Their start in life could have been very different if their mother had remained outside under the wheelchair ramp. Instead, they were born in warmth, comfort, and safety.

Liquorice immediately proved to be a loving and devoted mother. She cared for her kittens calmly and attentively, giving them the best possible beginning.

Kittens Grow Into Confident Young Cats

Over the following weeks, the little family began to thrive. The kittens opened their eyes, took their first wobbly steps, and slowly revealed their personalities.

Habanero, Jalapeño, Tabasco, and Carolina Reaper grew into playful, friendly, and confident young cats. Because they were raised in a safe foster environment from birth, they became comfortable around people, children, and other animals.

The rescue described Liquorice’s journey as remarkable, saying she had gone from living beneath a wheelchair ramp to raising a healthy, happy family ready for their next chapter.

A Family Ready For Forever Homes

Now, Liquorice and her kittens are ready to find permanent homes. Two of the boys are hoping to be adopted together, while the third is looking for a home with another young cat who can offer companionship and play.

Carolina Reaper, the only girl in the litter, is hoping to stay with her mother. After everything Liquorice has been through, rescuers believe she would love to remain close to her daughter as they begin a new life.

The kittens, with their sleek black coats and affectionate personalities, have become some of the rescue’s most loving and social cats.

Final Thoughts

Liquorice’s story shows how one small act of attention can change several lives. A postal worker noticed her, a homeowner fed her, and a rescue opened its doors just in time.

Days later, she brought four kittens safely into the world. Now, this brave mother and her little family are ready for loving homes where they can continue to grow, play, and be cherished.
