Gridlock on I-85

It’s arguably the most important section of Interstate 85 in South Carolina.

A 22-mile stretch from White Horse Road in Greenville County to State 129 in Spartanburg County is a key transportation artery – for tractor trailers supplying some of the Upstate’s biggest industrial plants and distribution centers, for Upstate residents working at them and other businesses located near them and for Atlanta- and Charlotte-bound traffic passing through.  Continue reading...

Don’t expect it to be the case for long, but South Carolina is posting the lowest gasoline prices per gallon in the U.S.

That’s even with the fact the numbers this week have already started to climb.

Locally, the price per gallon rose nine-tenths of a cent in the past week, while the national average fell two tenths of a cent.  Continue reading...

 

Update desk: DOT mulls fixes to I-85

"Diverging diamond" formation being considered to alleviate congestion

One of the solutions being studied by the South Carolina Department of Transportation to ease congestion along a 22-mile stretch of Interstate 85 in Spartanburg and Greenville counties is being used at five sites in the country.

Diverging diamonds temporarily put drivers on the left side of the road at interchanges to eliminate the need for drivers to make left turns in front of oncoming traffic.
