Again, the Palmetto State is distinguishing itself and again it is unfortunate.
Turns out South Carolina is the only state that allows what’s called “bear baying,” some sort of training exercise that is supposed to help make it easier to shoot wild bears.
But bear baying uses declawed and defanged bears who are chained to stakes.
The Humane Society of the United States gathered undercover footage of the practice during a bear baying event held in Spartanburg. The animal advocacy group held a news conference calling for state laws to be changed.
The state’s attorney general Henry McMaster says yes it’s considered animal cruelty but he hasn’t prosecuted any cases. His office says they are reviewing the undercover video footage.
Ridgeland major Gary Hodges has done his darnedest to dodge the state law that bans the use of speed cameras.
Instead he’s set up an automated speed-ticketing device – in an RV.
But state officials are still investigating and tell the mayor he’s still breaking the law himself. But the RV lives on, and the camera is still snapping.
Note to self: When considering faking your mother’s death so you can attend her funeral at least have the sense to Google and find the name of an actual cemetery.
A school aide at a Bronx elementary school didn’t. She did however make up a brochure of sorts that gave the details of her mother’s so-called passing and then included the name of a cemetery in South Carolina…that doesn’t exist.
For her troubles – or not going to enough trouble – the woman was fired.
She was however convincing enough to garner a $150 gift from her coworkers.
When asked about what she was really doing on her “bereavement” days, the woman told school officials she was bowling…with her very much alive mother.
National Public Radio’s Linton Weeks has reminded us this week why some people think South Carolina should indeed join the likes of Arizona and Texas and just quietly go away.
S.C. Congressional candidate Christina Jeffrey, who lost in the primaries, has chosen to leave her YouTube video up.
If you haven’t seen it, it shows the Tea Party candidate with an AK-47 as she discusses the importance of the Second Amendment.
She closes the video with “A sovereign people is an armed people, thanks.”
