Greenville County deputies are searching for a woman they say wrote herself fictitious child support checks totaling nearly $1,800.

Candy M. King, 40, whose last known address was 9 Silver Spur Ct., Greenville, is wanted on three counts of forgery in connection with three fictitious checks drawn on the Greenville County Family Court child support account, according to warrants.

According to authorities, King obtained the routing and account number to the account and manufactured documents that resembled checks distributed by Family Court. Warrants say she made the checks payable to herself and cashed them at area businesses.

Family Court employees discovered the discrepancies during a daily internal audit and notified the Sheriff’s Office.

King faces eight additional forgery charges in connection with incidents dating back to Sept. 24.

King is accused of obtaining actual checks from two people, one of whom she knew, and cashing them.

She is described as a black female, 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighing between 140 and 160 pounds. She has short hair.
