After a night of torrential rains and tornado watches across the Upstate, meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Greer are predicting better weather today.
The forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies with a high near 56 degrees. But it could get breezy at times. A west wind is expected between 13 to 16 mph, increasing to between 21 and 24 mph throughout the day.
Gusts at times could reach 38 mph.
That wind could help to begin drying up at least a bit of the rain from overnight, that meteorologists said fell at times at a rate of two inches an hour.
The weather throughout the night caused treacherous driving.
About 9:30 p.m. Sunday, an 18-wheeler loaded with lumber overturned on Interstate 85 northbound near the Woodruff Road exit. Two lanes of the roadway remained closed this morning at the start of rush hour, but were opened by 9:15 a.m.
Just prior to 9 a.m. this morning, state troopers were dealing with 16 situations across Anderson, Greenville, Pickens and Spartanburg counties, several of them stemming from weather-related problems such as debris in the roadway on Old White Horse Road Extension in Greenville County and a wash out on Brice Road in Spartanburg County.
Those problems are expected to diminish throughout the morning.
A WYFF 4 transmitter on Caesar’s Head Mountain in Greenville County was knocked out by the weather about 5:46 p.m. Sunday, and engineers worked for more than two hours to fix it, station officials said.
A flood warning remains in effect today for the Saluda River, affecting Anderson, Greenville and Pickens counties. Meanwhile, a small stream flood advisory is in effect in Greenville County today.
There is a chance of snow this weekend, forecasters said.
